Overweight and obesity in adults

Over 1 in 2 NSW adults are above a healthy weight

Adults above a healthy weight have an increased risk of developing chronic disease and premature mortality. This includes physical health issues such as cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, asthma and some cancers and an increased risk of psychological issues such as depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. In 2019, 55.2% of NSW adults were overweight (32.8%) or obese (22.4%).
